Shadowbanned: Disasters Under The Sun (2018), Sticky Drama (2015)

Jon Rafman’s videos explore the emotional and social impact of technology and the Internet. They are often presented in custom-built viewing environments inspired by gaming stations found in computer-playing circuits. In previous projects, Rafman has compiled absurd imagery from Google Street View and explored the idea of a virtual flaneur in violence-oriented computer games. In Still Life (Betamale) (2013), accompanied by a soundtrack by Oneohtrix Point Never, Rafman combined found imagery from popular culture and computer gaming with shots of a keyboard covered with food crumbs and beverage spills. The work begins and ends with a still image of a shirtless man aiming two guns at his own head while a voice-over claims "If you look at the screen, it’s possible to believe you are gazing into eternity." Rafman’s latest project Shadowbanned: Disasters Under The Sun, made specifically for AB6, develops a new mythology augmented by Artificial Intelligence. Rafman’s installation is coupled with his Sticky Drama (2015).
