Zhala’s self-titled first album was launched on Robyn’s Konichiwa Records in 2015 and met with critical acclaim for its genre-bending cosmic pop fused with Kurdish Halparke music and dance moves. In their videos, such as the clip for Holy Bubbles (2015), which was shot in Los Angeles and directed by Tony Karlsson, Zhala investigates the mechanisms that steer celebrity culture, fame, and constructions of identity. In addition to Holy Bubbles, on view in the night club device of AB6, Zhala exhibits a new song and presents a live performance adapted for the context as a cosmic LARP, inviting the audience to participate as their cosmic selves. Zhala will also, together with Karlsson and a group of friends and film directors, assemble for an extended live action roleplay workshop for a telenovela involving larping as a strategy for the expansion of roles in the play of life.
