Decent Don (2017 – 2018)

What would it be like if Donald Trump, in a parallel universe, was just a normal and kind citizen of this beautiful world? In the Decent Don comic strips, JP Downer revisits the miasmatic side of Donald Trump to render a positive yet alarming sitcom surrounding wherein Trump acts like a social benefactor. Downer goes against the grain of attempting to downgrade Trump by depicting him as “impotent,” “ugly” or “aloof.” Simultaneously, Downer reverses the sexual alt-right mythology of Trump as the alpha male by turning him into a “nice” next-door guy, a good Samaritan. The subliminal result is, perhaps, more disturbing than the common (and justified) representation as corrupt, misogynist, and fascist.
